Pacific Faces Saint Mary’s in Final Conference Road Series

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific baseball team travels to Saint Mary's for a three-game series, beginning at 3 p.m. on Friday at Louis Guisto Field.
 
The Tigers (10-38, 4-14 WCC) are coming off a 6-4 victory over Fresno State in their midweek matchup at home on Tuesday. In that contest, sophomore Kaden Petersen went 4-for-5, picking up his first career four-hit performance as a Tiger.
 
Since 2006, the Tigers own a 11-20 record against the Gaels (30-16, 13-5) with each team sweeping a series in the previous two seasons. The Gaels won all three games last season while the Tigers won all three contests in 2022. In the last ten games between the two programs, Pacific and Saint Mary's are tied with a 5-5 record.
 
Saint Mary's enters the competition on a five-game winning streak, having swept Pepperdine earlier in May. The Gaels are in third place in the West Coast Conference standings with a 13-5 record and lead the conference with a .302 team batting average.
 
Christian Almanza paces the Gaels' offense with a .371 batting average and 22 home runs, which ranks first in the conference.
 
On the mound, Ryan Wiltse has the lowest ERA on Saint Mary's with a 2.42 mark in a team-high 19 appearances and 48.1 innings of work. The Gaels average giving up just under five runs a game with a 4.97 earned run average, which stands fourth in the conference.
 
The Tigers are led offensively by sophomore Jake Tandy with a team-best .273 batting average and 39 RBIs. Last weekend against Gonzaga, Tandy went 6-for-12 with three extra-base hits, including a home run. 
 
With three home runs in the series against Gonzaga, freshman Gabe Camacho extended the team lead in home runs to nine. The Encinitas, Calif., native sits among the top ten in the conference in home runs. In his last four games, Camacho is hitting .500 (7-for-14) with five extra-base hits. 
 
Junior Jakob Guardado is the Pacific leader in qualified ERA with a 5.57 mark through 12 appearances (ten starts) and 51.2 innings of work.
 
The series will kick off Friday with a 3 p.m. first pitch. Saturday is set for a 1 p.m. first pitch and the series will close with a 1 p.m. contest on Sunday. All games will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
