STOCKTON, Calif. – Fueled by a headline performance from freshman right-hander
Jakob Guardado, the Pacific baseball program pulled away from Gonzaga for an 8-2 victory on Saturday at Klein Family Field.
Guardado, from Tustin, California, threw 7.2 innings and put up five scoreless frames. He struck out four and allowed just two runs to earn the win.
Sophomore
Jake Tandy stood out at the plate and went 2-for-2 with a homer, double, two runs scored and three RBIs. He reached base safely in all five of his at-bats which included a trio of walks. Tandy's home run came in the second inning to give the Tigers an early 1-0 edge.
After Gonzaga went up 2-1 in the fourth, the Tigers answered with three in the bottom half to jump ahead 4-2 and never looked back. It included an RBI single by sophomore
Kaden Petersen and an RBI double by sophomore
Andrew Sloan.
Petersen came around to bat again in the fifth and drew a bases loaded walk to make it a 5-2 game. Petersen ended the day with two RBIs and a run scored after reaching base safely three times.
Pacific tacked on two more in the seventh on a double to left center by Tandy which scored two runs. The final tally came on a sacrifice fly in the eighth by freshman
Gabe Camacho.
Camacho, who was coming off a two-homer night Friday in the first game of the series, also pitched 1.1 scoreless innings of relief. He allowed just one hit in the five batters he faced.
Liam Paddack threw 4.1 innings for Bulldogs and took the loss. Tommy Eisenstat recorded a 2-for-4 day at the plate.
Pacific and Gonzaga will play the rubber match of the series at 1 p.m. Sunday in a game broadcasted on ESPN+.
