STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific baseball team dropped the second game of the three-game series to Santa Clara, 8-0, on Friday night at Klein Family Field.
The Tigers (10-44, 4-19 WCC) kept the Broncos (26-24, 12-11 WCC) to bay in the early going, but the Broncos capitalized in the middle innings to take game two in shutout fashion.
Pacific collected a pair of doubles as a team, one by freshman
JT Shank and another by senior
Telly Hill. Sophomore
Rylan Evans recorded the other hit for the Tigers, a lead-off single in the bottom of fourth inning.
Redshirt junior
Josh Souza turned in his longest outing on the mound as a Tiger, going 6.0 innings and allowing one earned run on seven hits while striking out two batters.
Like the series opener, both teams were scoreless until the deadlock was broken in the top of the fifth inning when Santa Clara's two-out rally produced a run for a 1-0 lead.
Fueled by a pair of throwing errors, the Broncos extended their lead to 4-0 with a three-run spot in the top of the sixth inning.
Santa Clara capped the scoring for the night in the top of the seventh with four more runs to secure the 8-0 victory.
The Tigers return to action at 1 p.m. tomorrow at Klein Family Field for the series finale against the Broncos on Senior Day.
