STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific baseball team welcomes in Santa Clara for the final conference series of the season and Senior Weekend, beginning at 6 p.m. on Thursday at Klein Family Field.
The Tigers (10-42, 4-17 WCC) will honor five players of the team on Senior Day in
John-Howard Bobo,
Chase Graves,
Telly Hill,
Owen McWilliam and
Jacob Weiss. The Senior Day festivities will begin prior to first pitch on Saturday before the series finale start time of 1 p.m.
The Broncos (24-24, 10-11 WCC) enter the series at an even .500 mark after taking two of three games against LMU during their Senior Weekend last week. Santa Clara has West Coast Conference series wins over the Lions, Gaels, Waves and Dons from earlier this season.
During their non-conference slate, the Broncos picked up a sweep over UMBC and took two of three games from Washington and UC Davis.
As a team, Santa Clara is hitting .266, which ranks fifth in the WCC. At the forefront of the offense is JonJon Berring, who leads the Broncos with a .327 batting average, 41 runs, 12 doubles and nine home runs. Michael O'Hara paces Santa Clara in conference play with a .356 batting average with 15 runs and three homers.
While Cade Pilchard has started the most games for the Broncos with 12 starts, Blake Hammond is the team's qualified leader in ERA with a 3.71 mark in 14 appearances, including two saves.
For the Tigers, freshman
Gabe Camacho highlights the offense with his team-leading ten home runs while hitting .252 with 28 runs and 29 RBIs. Camacho ranks among the top ten in home runs on the conference leaderboard. Sophomore
Kaden Petersen paces the Tigers with a .271 batting average.
On the mound, junior
Jakob Guardado has been effective of late, sporting a team-low 5.84 qualified ERA in 13 appearances (11 starts) and 57.0 innings of work. Junior
Ethan Shaver has been the go-to guy on Fridays and leads the Tigers with 41 strikeouts in a team-high 59.2 innings of work.
The series will kick off Thursday with a 6 p.m. first pitch. There will be post-game fireworks following the conclusion of the series opener. Friday is set for a 5 p.m. first pitch and the series will close with a 1 p.m. contest on Saturday. All games will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
