PORTLAND, Ore.- The Pacific women's tennis team locked up the most wins by a Tiger team in nearly two decades, moving to a 13-6 overall and 4-2 in conference record, after defeating Portland 4-3 on the road. The Tigers head to the West Coast Conference Tournament for the first time since returning to the league in 2013.
"Outstanding effort from our group to close out the regular season with a come from behind win today," head coach
Mike Erwin shared after the match. "Portland is tough, indoors on their home courts. Our players responded to the challenge to simply be tough after losing the doubles point. Really happy for freshman
Milena Maiorova, who's only been with us since January. She battled back after losing the first set to beat one of Portland's seniors and clinch the match for us."
The Pilots took the early lead after securing the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. The top of the line up ran through first, as Pacific looked to lock in its fourth conference win of the season. The Tigers went 2-1 across courts one through three to tie the match 2-2.
Junior
Tomi Main locked in another win after defeating Sally Pethybridge 6-2, 6-3 on court two. The junior improved to 10-5 in singles and is currently enjoying a five match unbeaten streak. Fellow junior,
Megan Carmichael, collected a 6-2, 6-3 win over Alaia Perez from court three.
Courts four through six followed suit and the freshmen locked up the win for the Tigers from courts four and five. Freshman
Indiya McLeod tacked on a win for Pacific after downing Aleksandra Dimitrijevic in three sets 1-6, 7-5, 6-4. Freshman
Milena Maiorova added the insurance with a win in three sets of her own, defeating Rimona Rouf 6(5)-7(7), 6-4, 6-4 from court five.
The Tigers prepare for a trip to San Diego as they head to the WCC Tournament for the weekend of April 26th.
