Pacific Prepares for Three-Meet Weekend

STOCKTON, Calif. – It's a big weekend for Pacific women's track and field as it gets ready for three meets on Friday and Saturday.
 
Senior Sophie Pazzo will compete in the 5k at the Leopard Distance Carnival hosted by La Verne at 3:40 p.m. on Friday at Ortmayer Stadium.
 
The two other meets take place on Saturday. Three Tigers will participate in the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific at 10 a.m. at Cougar Athletic Stadium. Eight of the athletes will be at Chabot College's Chuck Buettner Twilight at the Chabot College Track.
 
Last week, Pacific participated at the Triton Invite at UC San Diego and the Sacramento State Invitational.
 
Ten Tigers set personal bests throughout both events.
 
At the Triton Invite, junior Ella Leroy set a school record for the second time this season in the javelin as she threw for a personal best of 37.87m. The Chicago native finished third in section and 10th overall in the event.
 
Pacific also saw PRs from junior Sophia Livingston (23rd, 2:23.05) and freshman Gianna Solano (30th, 2:24.60) in the 800m. Sophomore Emily Wernli (16th, 4:53.19, 1500m) and freshman Valeria Espinoza (23rd, 19:41.18, 5000m) set personal bests in their respective long distance events.
 
The Tigers placed seventh overall as a team at the Sacramento State Invitational. Senior Anahi Avila Perez (third 5:08.95) and junior Elisabeth Garner (fifth, 5:15.25) finished in the top five in the 1500m.
 
In the field events, two Tigers had back to back PRs. Sophomore Serena Yee registered 1.49m in the high jump (seventh) and 10.20m in the triple jump (11th). Freshman Nadia Garcia Martinez notched 9.35m in the shot put and 27.94m in the hammer throw, placing 11th in both events. 
 
Rounding out the personal bests were freshmen Alexa Myers (10th, 5:40.33, 1500m) and Alondra Lopez (18th, 1:07.86, 400m). 
 
Following this weekend, Pacific wraps up the season at the Fresno State Invitational on Apr. 26 and 27.
