STOCKTON, Calif.- The Pacific softball team closed out its final non conference game of the season in a 9-1 loss to San Jose State on Wednesday afternoon. The Tigers head out on the road to open conference play against Saint Mary's this weekend.
"We really let the second inning get completely away from us and usually we've been able to stop the bleeding, but we did not do a good job with it today," head coach
Brian Kolze shared after the game. "We made too many mistakes and we didn't have the margin of error to come back, we just dug too big of a hole and San Jose State controlled the tempo and we didn't stop it. We just have to get better at controlling things when things get out of control."
Sophomore
Olivia Silvestre scored the lone run of the day for the Tigers, extending her streak to seven games with one or more runs. She led the Tigers with two hits in two at bats. Five Tigers, including Silvestre, recorded hits, with sophomore
Jordan Hayes earning the RBI in the bottom of the first.
Three pitchers saw action with Junior
Desiree Smith getting the start from the circle. She pitched through 1.1 innings while facing 11 batters. Senior
Amiyah Aponte came in for 2.2 innings and faced 13 batters, striking out one and allowing three runs. Freshman
Justice Alcaraz closed the final 1.0 inning without allowing a hit or run after facing three batters.
The Spartans got on the board early, scoring two runs in their first offensive appearance of the day. The Tigers responded in the bottom of the first as Hayes' single facing two outs drew in Silvestre as Pacific chipped away at the early deficit. However, San Jose State took advantage of Pacific's two errors in the second as the Spartans scored their remaining runs to cement the final score 9-1.
Pacific travels to Saint Mary's to open conference play. The Tigers and Gaels, in anticipation of Saturday's weather, have moved the doubleheader to Friday, April 12 at 1 p.m. to start the series.
