Pacific Faces California in Midweek Matchup

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific baseball team begins a four-game road swing this week with a midweek matchup against California at 6:05 pm on Tuesday at Evans Diamond.

The Tigers (5-22, 1-5 WCC) are coming off a setback at home against San Diego last week.

This week, Pacific heads to California (15-10, 5-7 Pac-12) for its midweek game before traveling to Portland to resume West Coast Conference action.

Since 2006, the Tigers own a 7-14 record against the Golden Bears. Cal narrowly edged Pacific by a 5-4 score in the most recent game last season on April 3, 2023. In that contest, sophomore Rylan Evans recorded a pair of hits. The Tigers seek their first road victory against the Bears since 2021.

The Bears were picked to finish eighth In the Pac-12 preseason coaches' poll. Five members of their team were selected to the Pac-12 Preseason All-Conference Team. Junior catcher Caleb Lomavita has been named to the team for the second consecutive season. Joining him are Max Handron and Rodney Green Jr., and pitchers Ian May and Tyler Stasiowski.

So far this season, the Bears have series wins over Connecticut and UCLA. Cal is 2-0 against WCC teams with victories over San Francisco and Santa Clara.

As one of three batters hitting over .300 on the team currently, PJ Moutzouridis leads the Bears with a .374 batting average (34-for-91) with a team-high 22 runs. Lomavita paces Cal with 11 home runs and 38 RBIs.

On the mound, Luke Short is Cal's qualified leader in ERA (4.67) with a 2-1 record in six starts and 27.0 innings of work.

For the Tigers, sophomore Jack Metcho and sophomore Kaden Petersen have been consistent threats in the top of the order, hovering around the .300 mark. Metcho leads Pacific with 29 hits, 20 runs and four triples. His four triples rank for a tie for first on the WCC leaderboard. Sophomore Jake Tandy holds the team lead in RBIs (20).

Senior Chase Graves has demonstrated his patience at the plate with a team-high 21 walks, which places first in the conference.

Tuesday's game has a first pitch start time at 6:05 pm with the broadcast available on California's Pac-12 hosted stream.
