Tigers Comeback Cut Off by Gaels

STOCKTON, Calif.- The Pacific women's tennis team made a late push in singles in pursuit of its first conference win of the season, but the run was cut short and the Tigers fell 4-1.

The doubles point was a hard fought decision, with the Gaels striking first on court two. The Tigers, led behind senior Klara Kosan and junior Tomi Main, moved to 8-4 on court one after defeating Saint Mary's 7-5. The doubles decision came down to court three, but the Tigers couldn't get the edge in the tiebreaker and entered singles in an early deficit.

Pacific went down 2-0 before senior Zoe Cyldesdale-Eberle got the Tigers on the board after downing Sofia Daryaie 6-2, 6-3 on court six. She improved to 5-0 playing on court six, while extending her singles match winning streak to four. After the Gaels took court five, the Tigers had to lock on to courts one through three for the comeback.

Kosan grabbed the tiebreaker in her opening set 7(7)- 6(4) on court one and played through a tough second set, while trying to mount a comeback. Main, having fallen in her first set 6-3, battled back to a 6-2 second set win on court two.

The match was decided on court three. Despite a late surge to tie her second set 5-5, junior Megan Carmichael fell 6-2, 7-5. Courts one and two went unfinished, while the Gaels snapped the Tigers four match win streak.

The Tigers return on Friday, March 29 to take on Gonzaga at 1 p.m. at the Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center.
