Tigers Drop Close Contest to Vikings

STOCKTON, Calif.- The Pacific softball team entered a defensive back and forth against Portland State as neither side was willing to give up a run, but the Vikings found the way to break through and kept the Tigers at bay to take game one 1-0.

"It was another one run game," head coach Brian Kolze said. "The team played exceptional and we had opportunities early. Scarlett [Lloyd] threw a tremendous game but I have to help find ways to get us over the hump. They played their hearts out and it's just tough after last night's close game. We are playing really well and competing, but they found a way to score a run and we didn't"

Junior Delaney Scully and sophomore Amanda Bricker combined for four hits in the low scoring affair, while Scully and sophomore Asia Lee combined for 10 putouts. Bricker's two hits was good for a new season high for the sophomore. The Tigers out hit the Vikings six to four, but one hit proved pivotal to draw in the lone run of the evening.

Senior Scarlett Lloyd pitched through all 7.0 innings and faced 27 batters. She struck out two while only allowing four hits and one run. The lone run came in the fourth inning while Lloyd orchestrated shutouts through six innings.

It's the tenth game this season decided by one run and second in a row for Pacific. The Tigers have three wins in such contests, two of which came at home against CSU Bakersfield.

The Tigers return tomorrow, Friday, March 22 for a doubleheader against the Vikings. The first game starts at noon while the second follows directly after.
