STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific baseball team kicks off West Coast Conference play on the road against Pepperdine with a three-game series, starting at 3pm on Friday at Eddie D. Field.
This week, the Tigers (4-16) hosted Sacramento State in a midweek matchup as freshman
Gabe Camacho launched a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to secure a 3-2 victory at Klein Family Field.
Pacific looks to carry that momentum into this weekend, beginning conference action in Southern California against Pepperdine (5-16).
The Waves enter the series after dropping a series at Tulane and a Tuesday contest at CSUN.
In the last 26 meetings between the Tigers and Waves, Pacific owns a 11-15 record. However, the Tigers took two of three games against the Waves last season at home, including a 14-11 victory in the series finale. In that contest, sophomore
Jake Tandy collected three hits, scored three runs and drove in one Tiger.
Predicted to finish seventh in the West Coast Conference this year, the Waves have returned 21 players from last year's squad including three returning starters in the field and two of the three weekend starting pitchers. Pepperdine also welcomed 18 newcomers, including nine transfers.
2024 marks the ninth season of head coach Rick Hirtensteiner's tenure at the helm for Pepperdine. Hirtensteiner served as an assistant on the Waves' staff for 17 years prior to taking over for Steve Rodriguez, who left for Baylor in 2015.
The Waves are led offensively by Connor Bradshaw, who's hitting .337 (28-for-83) with eight doubles and 10 RBIs. Julian Nunez has supplied some power for Pepperdine with a team-high three home runs and seven RBIs.
For the Tigers, sophomore
Jack Metcho has been an on-base machine for the Tigers, reaching in all but one game this season while hitting .292 and scoring a team-best 14 runs. Camacho leads Pacific with three home runs to go along with seven RBIs. Sophomore
Kaden Petersen also has been steady at the plate with a .292 batting average, two home runs and 10 RBIs.
On the pitching front, junior
Ethan Shaver will look to build on his last two productive outings, sporting a 4.37 earned run average in five starts and 22.2 innings of work. Junior
Jarryd Wood earned his first win of the season last night in a relief appearance. Wood owns a team-low 1.93 ERA in 18.2 innings of work.
The series will kick off Friday with a 3 pm first pitch. Saturday is set for a 1 pm first pitch and the finale is scheduled with a 1 pm start time on Sunday. All games will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
