Tigers Split Games with Montana, Grand Canyon

PHOENIX, Ariz.- The Pacific softball team collected its third win of the Purple Classic after defeating Montana 10-5 before falling to host Grand Canyon 9-1 on Saturday.

"Though we lost to what I feel is a top-25 team tonight, I thought we did some really great things today," head coach Brian Kolze shared. "We had a great comeback against Montana and between the two games, we probably had one of the best offensive days of the season."

Sophomore Olivia Silvestre led the Tigers in the winning effort over the Grizzlies with two runs, three hits and 3 RBI in five appearances at the plate. Senior Rian Dirmeyer boosted the Tigers offense with three hits, two runs and an RBI at five at bats. Juniors Delaney Scully and Talissa Montez each went for three hits and a run, while combining for 3 RBI. Eight Tigers in total recorded runs while the team tallied 18 hits.

Junior Desiree Smith captured the win from the circle, only allowing two hits through 4.0 innings pitched. She saw 14 batters while allowing no runs and delivering a strikeout.

The Tigers found themselves in a 5-2 deficit heading into the top of the fourth inning, but they slowly started chipping away at the Grizzlies lead while clamping down on them defensively. Junior Kyla Eck brought in Montez for the score after singling through right center field, pulling the Tigers within two.

Pacific scored two or more runs in the final three innings, breaking through the tie after sophomore Asia Lee came in for the score at the top of the sixth. Silvestre hammered out a home run at the top of the seventh, putting the Tigers up 10-5 cementing the win.

Following the comeback, the Tigers saw six hits, one run and an RBI against the Antelope. Eck recorded the sacrifice fly that drew in Montez for the score.

Freshman Justice Alcaraz returned to the circle against Grand Canyon, pitching through 3.0 innings and striking out two batters. She allowed six hits and three runs while facing 15 batters.

The Tigers return tomorrow morning for their final game of the Purple Classic as they revisit the Grizzlies at 8 a.m. PT.
