OCALA, Fla.- The Pacific men's swim team remained in 13th place after scoring 73.5 more points through the second day of the National Invitational Championship meet backed behind three more top-16 finishes.
"Had a solid day overall," head coach
Katelyne Herrington after the second day. "Though we struggled to find enough speed going out in the 100 strokes to get us back in the finals, but tomorrow should be good. We still had some incredible drops from
Aidan Scott in the 400 IM,
Aidan Vollmar in the 100 fly, Leland's lead off 50 back in the 200 medley relay and
Mitchell Hopper's 200 free lead off in the 800 free relay."
Senior
Aidan Scott kicked off the day for the Tigers, clocking the 14th fastest time in Friday mornings 400 medley. With a 3:57.22 finish at the wall, Scott dropped 5.14 seconds off his entry time for a trip to the finals.
Fellow senior
Aidan Vollmar took the 12th fastest time of the 100 fly prelim with a 48.04. Senior
Dylan Parente followed suit in the 200 free prelim, finishing with a 1:39.72, while sophomore clocked a 55.82 in the 100 breast.
Wrapping up the morning's individual races was junior
Leland Baltazar in the 100 back, finishing with a 49.29. The Tigers took 10th in the 800 free relay with a 6:36.87 behind junior
Mitchell Hopper's opening 1:35.99. Parente, senior
Alex Kurotori and Scott wrapped the final 600 yards for Pacific.
Friday's finals opened with the 200 medley relay, where the Tigers, led behind Baltazar, Cole, Vollmar and Parente, took 11th with a 1:28.43.
Scott carried the momentum from his 400 medley prelim, dropping another 2.52 seconds to take 14th in the race with a 3:54.48. Vollmar fared similarly, finishing tied-15th with a 48.19 in the 100 fly.
The Tigers return for the final day of the National Invitational Championship on Saturday, March 16 with prelims at 6:30 a.m. PT and finals set for 3 p.m. PT. Following the event, Pacific remains in Ocala for the long course time trial on Sunday, March 17.
