Tigers Nab Shutout Over Illinois State in Hawai’i

HONOLULU, Hawai'i- The Pacific women's tennis team pulled off its second sweep in as many matches after downing Illinois State 7-0 in its first match of the Rainbow Wahine Spring Invitational.

"Solid result from our squad today," head coach Mike Erwin said. "Got out to a quick start in doubles and rode that wave of momentum into singles where everyone hung together and got wins on all six courts. We're looking forward to wrapping up our trip against Hawai'i on Saturday."

After their first doubles win together last Saturday, junior Liza Mladentseva and freshman Indiya McLeod returned with a 6-1 win over the Redbirds on court three. Senior Klara Kosan and junior Tomi Main clinched the doubles point after a 6-4 win on court one.

Kosan swiftly put the Tigers up 2-0 after a 6-0, 6-3 decision over Tijana Zlatanovic on court one. Fellow senior Zoe Clydesdale-Eberle followed suit with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Sofia Rodrigo.

McLeod sealed another match, clinching the win 4-0 after downing Nuria Sanz 6-2, 6-3 from court five. The Redbirds and Tigers played through on the remaining three courts, with junior Megan Carmichael keeping the sweep alive with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Lana Caculovic on court three.

Main captured a win on court two after Nevena Kolarevic retired after the second set and Mladentseva capped off the 7-0 sweep after a 6-1, 7(7)-6(4) win over Silvia Pomarolli on court four.

The Tigers close out their week in Honolulu taking on host Hawai'i on Saturday, March 16 at noon PT.
