Tigers Drop Series Finale to Tritons

LA JOLLA, Calif. – On a sunny Sunday afternoon, the Pacific baseball team found its offensive groove late, but ultimately fell to UC San Diego, 9-4, at Triton Ballpark.

The Tigers (2-13) were swept for the first time in a series this season while the Tritons (12-3) earned their third series sweep at home on the year.

A six-run spot in the third inning by the Tritons proved to play a pivotal role in the contest as the Tigers could not solve the starting pitcher from the onset and could not climb out of the early deficit.

Freshman Gabe Camacho put together a nice performance at the plate, launching his second home run of the season, which puts him in a tie for the team lead. Camacho also drew a walk in his final at-bat of his 1-for-4 day. Sophomore Jack Metcho extended his on-base streak to a season-long 15 games, going 1-for-4 with a single and a walk.

Junior starter Jakob Guardado made his fourth start of the season, going 2.1 innings and allowing seven runs on seven hits while collecting two strikeouts.

The Tritons got things rolling early as they scored the game's opening run in the bottom of the second. UC San Diego would then chase Guardado in the home half of the third, crossing home six times to take a 7-0 lead.

Back-to-back home runs by the Tritons in the fourth inning brought the run total to nine for the home team.

Pacific got on the board in the sixth inning as redshirt freshman Luis Vargas drove in his first two runs of the season, cutting the deficit to 9-2.

In the top of the seventh, Camacho crushed a two-run home run to right field that ultimately wrapped up the offense on the day for both sides.

The Tigers return home and will face Utah Valley at noon on Tuesday at Klein Family Field.
