Pacific Faces UC Davis in Road Opener

STOCKTON, Calif. – Following a seven-game homestand to begin the 2024 campaign, the Pacific baseball team plays its first road game of the season, taking on UC Davis at 2 pm on Tuesday at Dobbins Stadium.

Through the first two weeks of the season, the Tigers have faced three opponents, earning a 2-5 record at home.

Pacific is set for its first contest this year away from Klein Family Field, squaring off against the crosstown rival Aggies (4-2). UC Davis enters the midweek game with series wins over Seattle and BYU to kick-off its eight-game homestand.

Since 2006, the Tigers and Aggies have met 41 times with Pacific owning a 17-24 record in the span. Last year, the two teams split games with both teams winning their respective games on the road. While UC Davis won the most recent matchup on May 2, 2023, by a score of 8-1, Pacific was victorious in the last meeting at Dobbins Stadium, earning a 6-5 victory. In that contest, senior Jacob Weiss hit a home run and drove in two runs. Sophomore Caden Casagrande also hit a home run in the sixth inning, providing an additional spark to the Tigers offense.

The Aggies feature a versatile lineup, highlighted by six key returning hitters. Among the crop of veteran returnees is Mark Wolbert, who is hitting .393 (11-for-28) with three doubles, six runs scored and five RBIs. Ethan Felix has been an on-base machine for the Aggies in the early going, maintaining a .636 batting average and a .714 on-base percentage.

Pacific is led offensively by sophomore Kaden Petersen, who launched his first home run of the season in the series finale against NDSU. Petersen is hitting .346 (9-for-26) with three extra-base hits, five runs scored and a pair of RBIs. Coming off a three-hit game on Sunday, sophomore Jack Metcho holds a .320 batting average with a team-leading six RBIs and three stolen bases in three attempts.

Senior Chase Graves leads the Tigers with a .455 on-base percentage, taking a team-best 10 walks. Graves has also played stellar defense in the outfield, making 21 putouts without an error.
