Tigers Set Speedy Precedent at MPSF Championships Day Two

ST. GEORGE, Utah- The Pacific men's and women's swim teams built on last evenings successes by earning four top-15 times in Thursday night's finals. Junior Mitchell Hopper and senior Dylan Parente each earned top-10 finishes with new personal bests in the 200 medley and 50 free respectively.
 
The Tigers kicked off the morning with seven top-15 times in the prelims, starting with the women's 500 free Thursday morning. Junior Jadyn Phillips dropped nearly a full second off her entry time to finish with a 5:02.30.
 
Junior Paige Sondgeroth clocked a 2:05.42 in the 200 individual medley, improving by .19 of a second. Junior Mitchell Hopper had the sixth fastest time in the 200 IM prelim with a 1:47.93. Senior Aidan Scott improved by 1.34 seconds in the race, clocking a 1:49.80. Junior Alex Kurotori shaved off nearly a second to finish with a 1:50.59.
 
Junior Alexia Ferguson led all Tiger women in the 50 free prelim, finishing with a 23.69. Senior Dylan Parente clocked a 20.20 in the sprint, before returning for the 200 free relay. Parente led off with a 20.08. Hopper followed with a 19.51, while Kurotori clocked a 20.09. Junior Leland Baltazar anchored with a 19.78 to guide the TIgers to a sixth place finish. The four shaved 1.20 seconds off the relay's entry time. 
 
Both junior Jordyn Gonzales and Phillips returned for the 500 free final. Gonzales improved by nearly two seconds to clock a 5:09.15. Phillips earned the 16th fastest time of the night with a 5:08.90. Sophomore Gabe Windmiller finished with a 4:44.22 out of the men's side. 
 
Sondgeroth returned to take 14th in the 200 medley with a 2:06.75. In the men's 200 IM, Hopper finished sixth with a personal best 1:47.07, dropping .86 seconds from his time in the prelim. Scott claimed tenth with a 1:48.54, improving by 1.26 seconds from the morning. Kurotori finished at 1:50.64 to claim 16th.
 
Ferguson finished 16th overall in the 50 free, clocking a 23.60, while Parente took 11th with a new personal best, going 20 flat. Baltazar raced a 20.83 to round out the evening for the Tigers.
 
Pacific returns for the 100 fly, 400 IM, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back and 400 medley relays tomorrow morning. Prelims start at 9 a.m. PT with finals starting at 5 p.m. PT.
