Early Offense Powers Seattle Past Pacific

STOCKTON, Calif. – Battling the rainy and windy conditions all day, the Pacific baseball team came up short in a 9-5 loss to Seattle on Monday at Klein Family Field.

The Tigers fall to 1-3 on the season while the Redhawks improve to 2-2.

Seattle scored in each of the first four innings as the Tigers dug themselves into an early hole in the morning contest.

The Redhawks jumped out in front in the top of the first inning with a three-run, four-hit frame, giving the visitors a 3-0 lead. Redhawks left fielder Sam Kane recorded his first of four hits on the day, which was a two-run double.

Seattle tacked on two more runs in the top of the second on a two-RBI single by Redhawks first baseman Derek Gellos.

In the home half of the inning, Pacific responded with three-run spot, capped by an RBI single from sophomore Jack Metcho, cutting into Seattle's lead, 5-3.

The Redhawks countered with two more runs in the top of the third and fourth innings, padding their lead to 9-3. In his Tigers debut, freshman starter Regan Carter threw 3.0 innings, allowing six earned runs on ten hits and two walks.

The Tigers' bullpen steadied the ship after the fourth inning, not allowing a run, but the offense tallied just one run in the fifth and one more in the eighth inning, eventually presenting the Redhawks with a 9-5 victory.

Pacific returns to action on Friday at 5 p.m., beginning a three-game series against North Dakota State. The matchup between the Tigers and Bison marks the first-ever meeting.
