NEW ORELANS, La. – Pacific women's basketball went into halftime tied Friday, but fell to the Lamar Cardinals 69-54 in game one of the Big Easy Classic at the Alario Center.
Largely responsible for the Tigers (3-4) offensive first half successes were due to the play of freshman
Daria Nestorov and junior
Lauren Glazier. The pair combined to score 17 of Pacific's 26 first half points and finished the game as the team's leading scorers with 12 and 14 points respectively.
On the defensive end, Pacific was boosted by the play of junior
Sydney Ward in the first half who tallied three blocks and six rebounds. The only player blocking more shots than Ward was Glazier, as she recorded four first half blocks. Ward finished the game with a stat line of nine rebounds, two assists, three blocks, and a steal.
In the half alone, Pacific swatted eight shots, which tied for the 14th most single game in program history. The team finished with nine and moved up to a tie for eighth all time.
Graduate
Liz Smith continued to hound the ball defensively, racking up another four steals to bring her season total to 17.
Pacific returns to the Alario Center tomorrow, November 30, to wrap up the Big Easy Classic when it faces the Houston Cougars, who fell as well earlier in the day to Minnesota. Tip-off is once again scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
