ST. GEORGE, Utah – The Pacific swimming program finished competition in fourth place on the final day of the Trailblazer Invitational, hosted by Utah Tech at Human Performance Center Pool on Saturday.
Putting the finishing touches on the 36 different events across the three days, the Tigers maintained their position as the women earned eighth place out of 11 participating teams with 114 points and the men wrapped up in fourth place out of five men's programs with 590 points.
"We really came together as a team for our final day of racing," head coach
Katelyne Herrington said. "We placed ourselves in 18 scoring positions, helping us stay up in the rankings. I'm impressed with how fast we swam this early in the season and learned a lot about how we are responding to training. I'm excited to get back to practice, take what we need to work on and fine-tune to be more ready for conference."
Freshman
Javier Lopez Guillen turned in another strong performance, securing a first-place finish in the men's 200 yard butterfly with a time of 1:45.58.
Saturday began with the longest race of competition with the 1,650 yard freestyle events where freshman
Christina Agiomamitou and freshman
Matthew Dillon each collected six points for the Tigers.
In the men's 200 yard backstroke B final, Pacific placed first, second and third with graduate student
Aidan Scott, graduate student
Alex Kurotori and freshman
Liam Roedling finishing in that order for a combined 22 points.
Freshman
Josephine Fields was the runner-up in the women's 100 yard freestyle B final with a time of 51.31 seconds.
In the men's 100 yard freestyle portion, senior
Mitchell Hopper's 44 second time gave Pacific 12 points from the A final while freshman
Nate Rasmussen stood in a tie for first place in the B final for 8 points.
Freshman
Freddie Cumming tallied 16 points for the Tigers when he finished in third place in the men's 200 yard breaststroke A final.
The Tigers closed out the last day with a third-place position in the men's 400 yard freestyle relay for 32 points with total team time of 2:56.24.
Pacific has a three-week break before returning to action at the three-day UNLV Invite, beginning on Monday, Dec. 16.
