Tigers Set for First Road Meet with San Jose State, Host UC Santa Cruz

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Pacific swimming program embarks on its first road trip of the season, heading to the coast for a tri-meet with San Jose State and host UC Santa Cruz Saturday at noon at UCSC Recreation.

The Tigers enter their second meet of the season after earning a dominant victories over Cal State East Bay and Fresno Pacific in the season opener last month.

"It's been four weeks since we last raced so the team is very excited to get up and race again," head coach Katelyne Herrington said. "We just finished a pretty hard training cycle and will be good to see where the team is at since we last raced and as we prepare for mid-season meets."

Freshman Christina Agiomamitou and freshman Javier Lopez, who were named Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Athletes of the Week following their first meets as Tigers, look to build on their respective performances in Santa Cruz this weekend.

As one of the team captains, senior Mitchell Hopper looks lead on the men's side after earning the best time in 100 yard butterfly and 200 yard freestyle during the home opener.

Senior Paige Sondgeroth was one of the bright spots on the women's side during the Tigers' first meet, finishing in first place in 100 yard breaststroke, 200 yard breaststroke and 200 yard IM.

Since 2019, the Pacific women's team is 2-0 against UC Santa Cruz. The Tigers earned a 168-82 victory over the Banana Slugs at home last season. Pacific is 1-2 since 2019 against San Jose State.

The men, who are 2-0 since 2019 against UC Santa Cruz, will only face the hosts on Saturday.

The meet will be streamed on UC Santa Cruz's website with a first race scheduled for noon.
