SEASIDE, Calif. -Â With a 13-under par on the final day, the Pacific men's golf program rose three spots to claim first place on the final round of the Leadership and Golf Collegiate Championship, hosted by Saint Mary's and Seattle at Bayonet Golf Club.
It was the team's second tournament victory of the season after shooting an 855 (-9) over three rounds. SophomoreÂ
Carlos Astiazaran claimed the individual title, his first of his career after he steadied the course with an eight-under-par across the three days.
Â
"It was a total team effort all throughout the week," head coach
John Cook said. "Carlos' play all week was phenomenal. Yesterday's 71 was really special under those conditions. Getting that first win is something he had really been striving for the last year and a half. I'm very proud of him and the team."
Â
Astiazaran sat comfortably after round two in second place but moved up to the top spot individually after shooting a three-under-par in the final round. Astiazaran, who led Pacific last season with his 71.4 stroke average as a freshman, secured his first individual championship and his third top ten finish this year.Â
Â
Astiazaran joins junior
Travis Robbie as a Tiger individual champion this season. Robbie earned his first-place nod last week at the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational.
Â
Junior
Deitrek Gill recorded the best third round of all 84 participants, carding an eight-under-par that featured three eagles to jump up 34 spots for a top five finish.
Â
Robbie also completed the Leadership and Golf Collegiate Championship on a positive note, earning a tie for eighth place individually with a two-under-par.Â
Â
Redshirt junior
Daniel Henely and junior
Timothy Jung rounded out the five-man lineup with a 12-over-par and 13-over-par, respectively.Â
Â
Freshman
Brasen Briones moved up the individual leaderboard, closing out his performance with an 11-over-par.
Â
Pacific wrapped up its fall season with four top two finishes, including a pair of tournament wins with the first team championship earned at Navy. The Tigers look ahead to the spring portion in 2025 where the team will head to Waimea, Hawaii for the Amer Ari Invitational in February.
Â
"I'm really excited about the team effort," Cook said. "They're all buying in to working hard and getting better every day. We're looking forward to taking a little break for the fall and go into the spring on a high note."
