STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific men's swim team welcomes two new athletes, and the women's team welcomes six for the signing class of 2023-24.
"Very excited about our incoming class," said Head Coach Katelyne Herrington. "We graduated one senior on the women's side and have six coming in to help us round out our roster."
Four of the five incomers for the women's team are freshmen.
From Visalia, Calif., Kate Geiger will compete in the 50 free, the 100 free and the 200 free for the Tigers. She's coming to Pacific from Immanuel High School, where she lettered all four years. Her current best times are 24.48 in the 50 free, 53.28 in the 100 free and 1:58.95 in the 200 free. She was the 2021 Division II CIF Champion in the 50 free, the 2022 CSL Champion in the 100 free and the 2023 TCC Champion in the 200 individual medley. Outside of high school, Geiger competes for the Tule Nation Tritons. The former Eagle was the valedictorian for her high school graduation and maintained a 4.0+ throughout her high school career. Geiger will study criminal justice at Pacific.
Lexy Lewis, from Santa Rosa High School in Santa Rosa, Calif., will swim in the 200 free, 500 free and 1650 free races for Pacific. Lewis competed in four years of varsity swimming in high school, and her current best times are 17:29.84 in the 1650 free, 5:07.88 in the 500 free and 1:53.43 in the 200 free. Lewis competes with Neptune Swimming outside of high school and will study health and exercise science at Pacific.
Gabby Schmidt is joining the Tigers from La Jolla Country Day School in San Diego, Calif. She'll compete in the 100 breast and 200 breast races for Pacific. Originally from Saint Charles, Ill., Schmidt lettered all four years of high school. Her current best times are 1:06.15 in the 100 breast, 53.77 in the 100 free and 2:26.03 in the 200 breast. Schmidt also played basketball in high school but was named to the Academic All-Conference team as a sophomore for swimming and was the team captain and MVP her senior year. She helped lead her team to break school records in all relays. Schmidt will study exercise science at Pacific.
Amanda Schweichler, from Las Vegas, Nev., will compete in the 200 free, 200 back, 50 free and 500 free for Pacific. She joins the Tigers from Centennial High School. Aside from her high school team, Schweichler competes with the Sandpipers of Nevada. Her current best times are 27.99 in the 50 free, 53.16 in the 100 free, 58.11 in the 100 back and 1:55.21 in the 200 free. Schweichler was on varsity all four years of high school and was the 2023 State Champion in the 100 back. Schweichler will study business administration and marketing at Pacific.
Patricia Torres from ICA Cristo Rey Academy in San Francisco, Calif., will swim the 200 individual medley, 100 free and 200 free for the Tigers. Torres competed in varsity swim in high school and was the team captain. She was a state qualifier in 2022-23, and in her junior year, she broke the record of 1:57.47 from 2005 for the 200 free at the CCSF conference with a time of 1:56.39. She achieved her current best time in the 200 free of 1:54.13 by beating her record at the CCSF conference her senior year. She qualified for the CIF State Tournament in 2022 and 2023. Outside of high school, she competes with the Fog City Hammerheads and will study biology at Pacific.
The lone transfer in the women's recruit class of 2023-24 is Maddie Rishwain. The junior is a Lodi, Calif. native transferring from San Joaquin Delta College. She'll compete in the 100 back, 200 back and 200 individual medley for Pacific. Rishwain lettered three years in high school for swimming and her current best times are 2:13.99 in the 200 back, 1:02.62 in the 100 back, 25.87 in the 50 free, 2:06.54 in the 200 free and 2:21.47 in the 200 individual medley. She won second place in the 100 back at the all-conference tournament and fourth place in the 200 back at the tournament. Rishwain was a two-time All-American in the 200 back and 100 back and holds the record at Delta College for the 200 back. She received the All-Scholar Team Award in the 2021-22 school year and helped lead her team to win the Big Eight Conference Championship for the first time in 2022. The junior will study health science with a focus on nursing at Pacific.
"We are bringing in a very strong class of women that will have an immediate impact on our team throughout this season," said Herrington. "Coming off a successful season for the women by moving up two places at conference, we are looking forward to what is to come this year with our well-rounded roster."
On the men's side, Kyle Capili is a freshman from Torrance, Calif. The Mira Costa High School grad will compete in the 200 back, 200 fly and 200 individual medley for Pacific. Capili competed in varsity swim in high school, and his current best times are 1:51.62 in the 200 back, 1:53.95 in the 200 fly, 1:55.05 in the 200 individual medley, 50.72 in the 100 fly and 51.82 in the 100 back. Capili competes with SwimTorrance outside of high school and won second place with the team at the Carlsbad Sectionals in 2023. In his junior year, he was the Bay League Champion in the 200 individual medley, 200 free relay and 400 free relay. He was also the CIF SS Division I finalist in the 200 free relay. During his senior year, he was the Bay League Champion in the 100 back, 200 medley relay and 400 free relay. He also was a NISCA All-American in the 400 free relay and a finalist at the CIF SS Division I Tournament in the 100 back, 200 medley relay and 400 free relay. Capili will study Pharmacy at Pacific, inspired by his mother, who is a nurse.
A dual-sport transfer from Golden West Junior College, Srboljub Filipovic, will compete in swimming and water polo for the Tigers. The junior from Saint Charles, Ill., will compete in the 100 breast, 200 breast and 200 individual medley for Pacific. The 6'2 swimmer was an IHSA All-State Swimmer from 2016-2020, a two-time State Champion and the 2020 Male Athlete of the Year. He was named to First Team All-Conference from 2016-2020, and his current best times are 1:51.30 in the 200 individual medley, 55.30 in the 100 breast and 2:03.30 in the 200 breast. Filipovic received All-Academic honors in 2017 and was on the Golden West Dean's List in 2021. He'll study computer science at Pacific.
"On the men's side, we are bringing in two dynamic swimmers, a smaller class but higher impact at the conference level," said Herrington. "We have a versatile freshman that will help us elevate our stroke events and a dual sport athlete that will help us be more competitive in the spring after water polo season."
