STOCKTON, Calif. – Pacific baseball (12-25, 5-13) picked up its first WCC series win of the season, scoring 14 runs over Pepperdine (15-22, 7-11) Sunday afternoon in a 14-11 win.
"Crazy. Wild," said Head Coach
Chris Rodriguez when asked about the win. "Give it to the team. They persevered after giving up a six spot in the first. We take one inning at a time and keep scoring and scoring and creating momentum on our side."
All nine Tigers in the starting lineup had a hit. Junior
Chaz Myers hit two home runs and drove in four runs on three hits. Graduate
Jeremy Lea was a double away from the cycle, driving in two runs. Freshmen
Jake Tandy and
Jack Metcho both collected three hits.
Senior
Marvcus Guarin started the game and pitched 3.1 innings, allowing five earned runs with two strikeouts. Sophomore
Caden Duke won after pitching 3.0 innings with three strikeouts. Sophomore
Owen McWilliam struck out one in his second save of the season.
In the opposite of yesterday's game, Pepperdine took an early lead, scoring six runs in the first inning. A double from junior
Jacob Weiss got the Tigers on the board in the bottom of the inning. Metcho brought in the game's second run with a single to right center.
Pepperdine looked to put the game away in the fourth, scoring three more runs and taking a commanding 9-2 lead. Pacific responded immediately, scoring three runs in the bottom of the fourth to keep it a four-run game. Pacific added one more in the fifth to make it a three-run game.
The Tigers took their first lead of the game in the sixth inning. The scoring started with graduate
Ben Nemivant doubling down the right field line, Lea followed it up with an RBI single to left, and Tandy tied the game with a single to left. Myers added the exclamation point with his first home run of the day, a two-run shot to left field.
Pepperdine tied the game again in the eighth with a two-run home run to right field. However, Pacific would not be stopped as Lea homered to retake the lead before Myers added insurance with his second home run, hitting a two-run shot to left center. McWilliam came in with the three-run lead and shut down the Waves to secure the series win.
Pacific is on the road on Tuesday, taking on UC Davis at 2:30 p.m.
