SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Pacific softball dropped the final two games of the NorCal Kickoff Saturday afternoon, falling to Utah Valley, 6-1, and Sacramento State, 7-2.
"We competed better than we did yesterday," Head Coach Brian Kolze said after the doubleheader. "We had more quality at-bats and made some great defensive plays."
Utah Valley 6, Pacific 1
The Tigers (0-4) recorded seven hits throughout the contest as Allie Capello led the team with two. Capello, tallying the first multi-hit game of her career, cracked a single up the middle in her first at-bat and followed with a single to left field in the bottom half of the sixth inning.
Trailing the Wolverines (2-2), 6-0, in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Tigers tallied their first run when Carly Lucchetti scored from third base on a fielding error.
Sacramento State 7, Pacific 2
The Tigers gained an early 1-0 advantage in the top half of the first inning, as Lucchetti scored on a Rian Dirmeyer RBI single to right field. Lucchetti began the game with a leadoff walk and advanced into scoring position on a Talissa Montez groundout during the next at-bat.
Another run was plated in the fifth inning, giving the Tigers a 2-0 lead. Dirmeyer picked up her second RBI of the contest as Lucchetti scored from third base on a fly out to right field.
The Hornets (2-1) scored six unanswered runs in the bottom half of the fifth inning and added a final run in the sixth to secure the win.
Pacific returns to action on Friday, Feb. 17, as it takes on Colorado State and California Baptist on the first day of the CBU Classic at Jim C. Funk Stadium.
