Gvishi Nets Nat Trick in Loss to #7 UC Davis

STOCKTON, Calif. – The #13 Pacific men's water polo team dropped a hard-fought contest to #7 UC Davis, 16-10, Sunday at Chris Kjeldsen Pool.

The Tigers fall to 9-4 overall on the year while UC Davis improves to 12-6.

Junior Gil Gvishi scored a hat trick for the sixth time this season, extending his season-long point streak to 13 games. Graduate student Stefan Vavic and junior Filip Norell each tallied a pair of goals, bolstering the offense early on. Fifth-year senior Rene Peralta added three points, securing his 11th multi-point performance of the year.

The Tigers struck first on a Gvishi shot from the perimeter, putting the crowd on their feet in the first period. Pacific continued to tack on goals, but the Aggies carried a 5-3 advantage after one period.

UC Davis led at halftime 11-4, but the Tigers responded in the third period, outscoring the Aggies 3-2, thanks to a buzzer beater by Gvishi to seal his hat trick.

Pacific launched a variety of attacks in the fourth quarter to mount a late comeback, but the Aggies held on for the 16-10 win.

The Tigers return to action for Homecoming as they take on #15 California Baptist at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14.
