SANTA CLARA, Calif. – In a battle of two Tiger programs, the #15 Pacific men's water polo team fell in the opening game of the Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament to #6 Princeton, 16-9, Friday at Sullivan Aquatic Center.
Pacific drops its first neutral game of the season, falling to 10-7 overall on the year. Princeton improves to 19-3.
Six different Tigers found the back of the net, including a pair of goals from junior
Gil Gvishi, graduate student
Stefan Vavic, and junior
Daniel Viscia.
Gvishi extended his season-long point streak to 17 games with his 14th multi-point performance of the 2023 campaign.
In goal, senior
Lewis Gale made a season-high nine saves, including a big stop on a Princeton penalty shot to keep Pacific within reach early in the contest.
Princeton jumped out to a 4-2 lead after the opening period, and added on to its advantage at halftime, 8-4.
Pacific attempted to manufacture a rally in the early portion of the third and fourth periods, but the Princeton goaltending and defense stood tall, eventually holding on for the 16-9 win.
Pacific continues play in the Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament at noon on Saturday, Oct. 21 against Bucknell.
