STOCKTON, Calif. – The #14 Pacific men's water polo team completed Homecoming and Family Weekend, falling to #10 UC Santa Barbara, 14-7, Sunday at Chris Kjeldsen Pool.
The Tigers drop to 9-6 overall on the year while UC Santa Barbara improves to 14-9.
Freshman
Spencer Burdack carried the torch offensively for the Tigers, tying a career-high of four points, including three goals for his second hat trick of the season.
Graduate student
Stefan Vavic added a pair of assists. Junior
Gil Gvishi tacked on a helper, extending his season-long point streak to 15 games.
In goal, freshman
John Winters earned his second consecutive start, making six saves in the afternoon.
A defensively minded first period saw the Gauchos hold a 2-1 advantage after eight minutes. UC Santa Barbara scored three more times in the second period, compared to Pacific's one goal, giving the visitors a 5-2 lead at halftime.
The Tigers started to find their groove offensively in the second half, but the Gauchos continued to find the back of the net and held on for the 14-7 victory.
Pacific returns to action at home in a mid-week matchup at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 18 against #17 Fordham.
