Home Basketball Games Againtst Gonzaga Headline This Week's Action

STOCKTON, Calif. – Both basketball teams are set to host Gonzaga this week plus the first spring sport kicks into action. The women's basketball team has invited local elementary and middle school students to campus for the Thursday game against the Zags. On the men's side, tickets in both chairback and general admission sections remain available for the 7 p.m. game Saturday. The Alumni Association, PAF and Athletics are co-hosting the Show Your Tiger Stripes Rally before the Gonzaga men's game in the Janssen-Lagorio Gymansium. Thursday, Jan. 19 – Women's Basketball hosts #20 Gonzaga, Alex G. Spanos Center, 11 a.m. – The Education Day game returns as more than 1,600 elementary and middle school students from throughout the region are expected on campus for a tour of the university and the women's basketball game. The Tigers (7-11, 2-5) host WCC leader Gonzaga (17-2, 7-0). Pacific dropped road games at San Francisco and Santa Clara last week. The Tigers are second in the WCC in steals (8.6 spg) and third in rebounding (39.0 rpg). The Bulldogs lead the league in scoring (73.8 ppg), three-point accuracy (41.2%) and free-throw accuracy (80.1%).
 
Thursday, Jan. 19 – Men's Basketball at San Francisco, War Memorial at the Sobrato Center, 8 p.m. (NBC Sports California) – The Tigers (10-10, 3-2) look to extend their road win streak to four with the short trip to San Francisco to face one of its longtime rivals. It will be the 112th meeting in a series that started in the 1911-12 season. Pacific faces a San Francisco team (12-9, 1-5) that has an 11-4 non-conference record with wins over Arizona State, UNLV and Fresno State, but has struggled in conference. The Dons are the conference's top three-point threat, averaging 10.0 three-pointers per game. Tyrell Roberts (2.5 tpg) and Khalil Shabazz (2.3) are second and fourth in the WCC in three-pointers made. The Tigers will counter with the WCC's most accurate three-point shooter, Luke Avdalovic, who has hit 58.2 percent of his attempts. Plus, Judson Martindale come alive from deep, hitting 8-of-12 from three-point range in the last three games. In addition to regional sports networks, the game will be broadcast by Fox Sports 1280 in Stockton and via the Internet with Zack Bayrouty on the call.
 
Friday, Jan. 20 – Sunday, Jan. 22 – Pacific Women's Tennis at Beach Winter Invitational, Long Beach – Women's tennis is the first spring sport to get underway, participating in the three-day invitational at Rhodes Tennis Center on the Long Beach State campus. The team will participate in group singles and doubles competitions in the event as the final tune-up before beginning the dual meet season on Friday, Feb. 3 against Youngstown State in Las Vegas.

Saturday, Jan. 21 - Men's and Women's Swimming Host UC Santa Barbara, Douglass M. Eberhardt Aquatics Center, 10 a.m. - The men's and women's swim teams host Senior Day at Chris Kjeldsen Pool as the teams close out the home season against the Gauchos of UC Santa Barbara. Pacific enters the week after a sweep of Cal Poly at home last Saturday, with the men winning, 164-98, and the women, 165-97. The men won 12 events in the Cal Poly contest, led by three-time winner Dylan Parente. The women won 11 contests, led by triple winner, Paige Sondgeroth
 
Saturday, Jan. 21 – Women's Basketball hosts Portland, Alex G. Spanos Center, 2 p.m. – Wear your Pacific white to the game as the Tigers host the Pilots (12-6, 6-1), who's only WCC loss was a setback last week to Gonzaga. Portland is the WCC's most accurate shooting team so far this season, hitting 47.1 percent of its shots from the field, including 51.0 percent in WCC play. Please note that the two Saturday basketball games will not be conducted as a doubleheader so separate tickets will be required for the men's and women's games on Saturday. Fans attending both games may want to consider joining the Show Your Stripes Rally between contests. The women's game is a great opportunity to bring the whole family as Powercat is celebrating his birthday with many of the top mascots from the area.
 
Saturday, Jan. 21 – Men's Basketball host #6 Gonzaga, Alex G. Spanos Center, 7 p.m. – For the first time in four seasons (since February 28, 2019), fans will be able to be welcomed in the Spanos Center for the Gonzaga-Pacific game. Fans were not permitted in the 2020-21 season and the two teams did not play in Stockton in 2019-20 or 2021-22. Gonzaga (16-3, 5-0) pulled out last-possession wins over San Francisco and BYU in its last two road games to remain unbeaten in the WCC. It's a "white out" as fans are encouraged to wear white for the NBC Sports Bay Area broadcast. The game is also carried by Fox Sports 1280. Chairback and general admission tickets remain on sale. There is a special Show Your Tiger Stripes Rally in the Janssen-Lagorio Gymnasium before the men's game for Pacific fans. Registration deadline for the event is noon Tuesday, Jan. 17 at this link.
