Tigers Get Big Win Over Aggies

DAVIS, Calif. – There are few better ways to get over a losing streak than a 10-run win on the road. That is exactly what the Tigers did on Tuesday, riding a huge second half to defeat UC Davis 14-4.

Caden Duke and Thomas Gavello homered and drove in three runs to lead the Tigers. Jacob Weiss also drove in three on two hits. Jarron Silva had three hits and scored three runs to lead the Tigers. Colby Canales reached base four times and scored three times.

With eight Tigers throwing, the Tigers went with pitching by committee approach for the Tuesday matchup. Jackson Ertz started the game, but Michael Defelippi secured the win, throwing three innings with two strikeouts and no runs allowed.

The Tigers jumped on the Aggies early, with a Caden Duke three-run home run in the top of the first inning. The Aggies scored two in the bottom of the first, and it looked to be a high-scoring affair early.

Both teams settled down after the big first inning. The Tigers got a run in the top of fifth from a Gavello single. The Aggies had a chance to take the lead in the sixth, scoring one run and having multiple runners on base. A line drive back to mound that Nick Swanson snagged saved a run, and he then proceeded to get the final out on a groundout to keep the Tigers in front.

The seventh inning was when it opened up for the Tigers, scoring five runs, highlighted by a Chase Graves two-RBI double that kicked up chalk down the right-field line.

Sometimes twice is just as nice, and that is precisely what happened as the Tigers scored five more runs in the eighth inning, a Gavello two-run home run and back-to-back doubles officially put the game away for the Tigers,

The Tigers will come home this weekend, hosting CSU Bakersfield Friday through Sunday and Arizona on Monday.
