MORAGA, Calif. – The Tigers fell to Saint Mary's 83-67 despite
Elizabeth Elliott setting a career-high in points and blocks while recording her fourth double-double this season.
Elliott scored 23 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and blocked three shots, all numbers which led the team.
Anaya James led the team with three assists, and
Sam Ashby had two steals and six points.
Jordan Cruz was second on the Tigers with nine points and led the team with 32 minutes played.
The Tigers came out strong as they did not trail in the first quarter and led by as many as six. The Tigers shot well from deep, going 4-7 in the first quarter and 50% overall in the game. After allowing 50 points in the paint in their previous matchup, the Tigers held the Gaels to only 34 points in the paint in this matchup. The Tigers also outrebounded Saint Mary's, including 17 offensive rebounds.
After leading in the first quarter, the Tigers could not stop a fast-paced Saint Mary's offense. Focused on protecting the paint, the Tigers gave space from three, which the Gaels took advantage of, shooting 46.2% from three while launching 26 shots behind the arc.
The Tigers had a nine-point lead in the second quarter before the Gaels started to hit shots, taking the lead for good with 2:45 left in the second quarter. The Gaels outscored the Tigers 42-30 in the second half.
The Tigers are back at the Alex G. Spanos Center for the final time this season on Saturday, Feb 26, as they will take on BYU. Before the game, senior
Jordan Cruz will be honored.
