Tigers Finish Home Stand with 3-1 win

STOCKTON, Calif. – In the final game of a five-game homestand at Bill Simoni Field for the University of the Pacific Softball team, the Tigers were victorious by defeating Santa Clara in a non-conference game. With the win, Pacific is on a four-game unbeaten streak and improves to 10-9-1 this season.

GAME SUMMARY

Ashley Trierweiler led off the game for the Broncos with a single to center field, then reached scoring position after a sacrifice bunt by Allyson Ferreira. SCU took a 1-0 lead when Emma Bickford hit an RBI single to drive in Trierweiler from second base.

With two outs in the bottom of the second for Pacific, Jessica Mabrey hit her second home run of the season to left center as the Tigers tied the game up at 1-1.

With two outs in the bottom of the third, Madison Kahwaty singled to prolong the inning. On base, Kahwaty stole second base and reached third on an error. Pacific took a 2-1 lead when Carly Lucchetti hit an RBI double, as Kahwaty scored the go-ahead run.

Santa Clara had an excellent opportunity to tie and possibly retake the lead in the top of the sixth inning with the bases loaded and only one out. However, with Bethany Hammer in the circle as a reliever, she retired the next two batters with a strikeout and a groundout.

Pacific extended its lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the sixth. With Mabrey at second base, Valeria Torres-Colon hit an infield single, and an error followed that allowed Mabrey to score her second run of the day.

Hammer retired the side in the top of the seventh and Pacific finished with a 3-1 win on Sunday.

Hanna Krosky improved to 2-3 on the season with the win, throwing 5.1 innings in the circle allowing one run with a season-high four strikeouts. Hammer picked up her third save of the season with 1.2 innings pitched allowing only one batter to reach on an error and retiring the final five batters faced.

NOTABLE STATS
  • Mabrey went 2-for-2 with a home run, two runs total and reached base three times.
  • Kahwaty is on a four-game hit streak and is batting .311.

"I thought we played a pretty solid all-around game."

"It was nice to get consistent pitching again and to see even though we only scored three runs, to have more quality at bats than the score indicated."
