STOCKTON, Calif. - On Friday, the first day of the 2021 Libby Matson Tournament, the University of the Pacific Softball team split a pair of games. Pacific took game one, 3-2 over Idaho State. However, in the final game of the day at Bill Simoni Field, the Tigers were shut out by Nevada, 4-0.
GAME ONE SUMMARY
Pacific 3, Idaho State 2
Through 3 1/2 innings, the Tigers and Bengals were scoreless.
Bethany Hammer retired 12 of the first 13 batters she faced allowing only one hit, as no ball reached the outfield for Idaho State in the first four innings.
With one out in the bottom of the fourth,
Rian Dirmeyer singled. After Dirmeyer's single,
Madison Kahwaty and
Madeline Domingo each singled to load the bases. With three runners on base,
Carly Lucchetti doubled to left center, driving in all three base runners to give Pacific a 3-0 lead.
The Bengals scored their first run of the game on a two-out RBI infield single by Rheanne Lewis with the bases loaded.
In the bottom of the seventh, two runners were in scoring position for Idaho State. Lewis singled in the second run for Idaho State, as the tying run reached third base. But an infield popup sealed the game for the Tigers, who earned a 3-2 victory.
GAME TWO SUMMARY
Nevada 4, Pacific 0
An infield single in the first inning by Sierra Mello to drive in Chelie Senini gave Nevada a 1-0 lead.
The Wolfpack scored three more runs in the top of the third, as Lauren Gutierrez and Mello each had RBI singles, and Gutierrez scored Nevada's fourth run when Jessica Sellers hit into a fielder's choice for an RBI.
Pacific was limited to only two hits against the Wolfpack - one each by Hammer and Kahwaty.
NOTABLE STATS
- Hammer pitched a complete game with four strikeouts and no walks.
- Kahwaty has a hit in three straight games.
- Dirmeyer leads the Tigers in batting avrage at .429.
- Pacific is 3-3 through Friday's action.

UP NEXT
Pacific hosts the second day of the tournament on Saturday. The first game for the Tigers is set for 10 a.m. from Bill Simoni Field against Idaho State. The final game of the Libby Matson Tournament features Pacific and Nevada, which is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
