LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The University of the Pacific men's water polo team lost to No. 1 University of Southern California, 16-9 on Saturday.

The loss drops Pacific to 5-7 on the season, whereas the Trojans raise their record to 11-0 with the win. The Trojans' Hannes Daube and Wyatt Barker each scored three goals to spoil a pair of four-goal efforts by the Tigers'
Jeremie Cote and Djorde Stanic.
How it happened
• Barker and Daube each scored on the Trojans first two possessions en route to the early lead.
• Stanic got Pacific on the scoreboard with a goal at the 5:41 mark of the opening quarter.Â
• The Trojans closed out the quarter with a 6-2 lead before the two teams each scored three times in the second quarter.Â
• USC stretched a 9-5 halftime lead to 15-7, outscoring Pacific 6-2 in the third quarter. Stanic and Cote accounted for the goals for the Tigers.
• Pacific outscored the Trojans by a 2-1 margin in the final quarter for the final margin.

Next, Pacific will face San Jose State on Saturday, October 9 at 1 p.m. at the Chris Kjeldsen Pool. Pacific started the season with a 12-11 overtime win over the Spartans on Sept 4.
