No. 21 Pacific Wraps Up Play in Irvine

IRVINE, Calif. – The No. 21 Pacific women's water polo team (2-11) battled all morning against No. 15 UC Davis (8-11) before ultimately falling to the Aggies, 12-9, in their final match at the Barbara Kalbus Invitational.

Despite four different Tigers recording two goals in the contest, UOP could not find enough momentum to complete the comeback in a rematch of last Sunday's game in Davis.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
  • Although UC Davis would score the first two points of the match, Pacific got on the board at the 2:13 mark in the opening period as junior Brooke Contreras found sophomore Lucy Davis for her first goal of the contest.
  • Keeping the Aggies on their heels, the Tigers scored their second goal of the first quarter when senior Emma Myall found the back of the cage with 1:19 remaining on the clock. At the end of one period of play, UOP trailed UC Davis, 3-2.
  • Responding shortly thereafter, the Aggies netted three straight goals to open the second period before sophomore Brianna Utas scored her first of the match on an assist from Davis at 5:11.
  • Finding their rhythm, Utas scored again at the 3:46 mark before Myall also added her second of the contest with 1:11 remaining in the half. Unfortunately, the Tigers trailed the Aggies, 7-5, at the halftime break.
  • Similar to the second, UC Davis netted three goals to begin the third period, jumping out to a 10-5 lead with a little over three minutes left in the quarter.
  • Continuing to battle, Contreras scored her first of the game on an assist from Davis with 2:39 on the clock. However, at the end of three, the Aggies held the 11-6 advantage heading into the final period of play.
  • Starting out the fourth quarter on a positive note, Contreras found the back of the net for the second time on an assist from sophomore Toula Falvey at the 5:55 mark.
  • Battling until the very end, sophomore Ana Martinez do Amaral scored two goals in the final three minutes, but the Tigers could not claw back to even the score against the Aggies, falling to UC Davis by a final score of 12-9.
