IRVINE, Calif. – The No. 21 Pacific women's water polo team (2-8) was defeated, 14-3, by No. 2 UCLA (15-1) in their first match of the Barbara Kalbus Invitational on Friday afternoon.
Despite two goals from sophomore
Toula Falvey, the Tigers could not find enough momentum to overpower the Bruins in a rematch of their contest from Jan. 25.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- Aiming to get back to their winning ways, UOP struggled to find their rhythm on offense out of the gates as the Bruins led the Tigers, 2-0, after the first period of play.
- Getting on the board, sophomore Brianna Utas netted the first goal of the afternoon for the Tigers on the powerplay at 1:01 in the second quarter.
- Despite the deficit, Pacific was still in striking distance of the Bruins at the halftime break, trailing 4-1.
- Battling out of the locker room, Falvey scored her first of the day on an assist from sophomore Lucy Davis just 42 seconds into play in the third period.
- Unfortunately, the Bruins would respond with six straight goals to take a 10-2 advantage over the Tigers heading into the final frame.
- Rounding out her scoring performance, Falvey found the back of the cage for the second time on an assist from Utas with just 45 seconds remaining in regulation.
- Ultimately, No. 2 UCLA handled No. 21 Pacific by a final score of 14-3.
