Tryggedsson, Teammates Win 3x3 Qualifier Warm-up Tourney

Late last night and early this morning while her Pacific teammates were sleeping, Pacific women's basketball's redshirt senior Sofie Tryggedssonwas winning a basketball tournament in her home nation of Denmark.

Tryggedsson and her team, Streetball København, rolled through the Senior Women's Division at the GAME Denmark 3x3 Open in Copenhagen with four straight wins early this morning to take the crown. Tryggedsson is playing with members of the Denmark Women's National 3x3 Team in preparation for the FIBA 3x3 Europe Cup Qualifiers on June 29 and 30.

Tryggedsson and her team cruised to wins over NOYPI PH, Team MereBuePå W and A Team before defeating Team MereBuePå W again in the final, 11-9. Tryggedsson and her team of four players which includes her sister, Ida, Maria Jespersen and Emilie Hesseldal will all compete in next week's qualifiers representing Denmark.

Last summer, Tryggedsson and her teammates won the FIBA European Small Countries Championships in Ireland after routing Luxembourg in the final, 93-59. A successful qualifying campaign later this month will qualify Denmark for the FIBA 3x3 Europe Cup in Hungary which tips off in August.

Three on three basketball is a rapidly growing sport on the world stage. It is played on half courts and has been played competitively since the 1980's. The first FIBA 3x3 World Cup was played in Athens in 2012. It became a Youth Olympic Games sport in 2010 and will become an Olympic sport for the first time at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. 3x3 rosters are made up of four players; three starters and one substitute.

It is growing rapidly in the United States as well thanks to organizations such as hip-hop artist and movie star, Ice Cube's, BIG3 in which retired NBA players play in 3-on-3 games. The BIG3 begins its third season this June.

Sofie Tryggedsson joined Pacific prior to the start of the 2018-19 season after transferring from Colorado State with her fellow former Ram, Callie Kaiser. The two will make their Tiger debuts this coming season after redshirting in 2018-19 due to NCAA transfer rules.
