After picking up wins over Austria and Sweden over the weekend in Ukraine, Pacific Women's Basketball redshirt senior Sofie Tryggedssonhelped Denmark to qualification in the 2019 FIBA 3x3 Europe Cup in Hungary.
Tryggedsson and her country bounced back from a loss on day one by taking two out of three games on Sunday to punch their ticket to Hungary. In the decisive game, Denmark trailed late but rallied back to force overtime against Sweden and scored two unanswered buckets to win 12-10. Earlier in the day, Denmark closed out pool play with a 9-7 win over Austria. Tryggedsson scored eight points for Denmark on the weekend. Maria Jespersen led the Danish with 19 points, the second highest total in the tournament.Â
Belarus, who defeated Denmark 18-15 earlier in the day, also earned qualification for the 3x3 Europe Cup. Its player, Natalia Dashkevich, led the tournament with 28 points.
Denmark and the other 31 qualifying nations will reconvene in Hungary on August 30, 31 and September 1 for a chance to take home the FIBA 3x3 European Championship. A win in Spetember for Denmark would be Tryggedsson's first three-on-three Championship with her nation, but not her first time on the podium. Trygeddson and Denmark won the FIBA European Small Countries Championship last summer in Ireland after routing Luxembourg in the final, 93-59.
Sofie Tryggedsson joined Pacific prior to the start of the 2018-19 season after transferring from Colorado State with her fellow former Ram, Callie Kaiser. The two will make their Tiger debuts this coming season after redshirting in 2018-19 due to NCAA transfer rules.
