Tigers Split Doubleheader With Broncos

Santa Clara, Calif. - The Pacific softball team split their doubleheader against Santa Clara University on Saturday.

Pacific (16-29, 2-9) would drop a 5-4 heartbreaker late in their first game of the day to the Broncos (11-31, 3-5) but would pick back up in the second half of their doubleheader as a two-RBI single by Caity Sung helped deliver UOP a 5-3 win. 

Pacific vs. Santa Clara (Game 1): - In Case You Missed It:

  • Pacific kept a steady pace to start their first game with SCU. The Tigers would score three runs in the second, third, and fourth inning to take an early 3-0 lead. Caity Sung, Madison Hopper, and Carly Lucchetti would each tally an RBI-hit during that stretch to lead their team.
  • Santa Clara pulled their way back into the game, however, as a two-run double in bottom of the fourth and two runs in the fifth put them in front of UOP, 4-3. 
  • The Tigers would knot things up at a 4-4 a piece in the sixth inning off an RBI-single up the middle from Hailey Reed but the Broncos would rally in the bottom half of the seventh and pick up the first win of the off a go-ahead game winning RBI-single.
  • Hailey Reed would pitch 5.0 complete innings for UOP. Reed would give up just two earned runs while striking out six batters. 

Pacific vs. Santa Clara (Game 2): - In Case You Missed It:

  • Caity Sung drove in three runs for UOP in their second game of the day. including two in the seventh inning, to lead Pacific to a 5-3 win over Santa Clara. The junior would hit an RBI-single to centerfield in the first and deliver a clutch two-run single up the middle in the top seventh to give her team a 5-3 lead for the win.
  • Freshman Myka Sutherlin would pick up the Tigers' win pitching 2.2 innings and striking out three batters. Sutherlin would also allow just two hits in her appearance in the circle. 
  • Pacific had a good stretch at the plate in the second half of their double header recording five runs off 11 hits and drawing five walks. 

 

Up Next For the Tigers:

  • The Tigers close out their three-game series with the Broncos on Sunday. First pitch for the two teams is set for noon.
