Tigers Cap Successful Day One at ITA Northwest Regionals

STANFORD, Calif. – The Pacific women's tennis team picked up a pair of doubles wins and five singles wins on the first day of the ITA Northwest Regionals at Taube Family Tennis Stadium on the campus of Stanford University. Two doubles tandems will compete in tomorrow's Round of 32, while the Singles Round of 32 will consist of two from the Orange and Black as well.

This weekend's ITA Regionals are the team's first action in two weeks, last competing at the SMC Fall Invite in Moraga October 4-6.

"It was a good day for the Tigers," Pacific head coach Mike Erwin said on the team's opening performance in the South Bay. "We're excited to have Dohee (Lee) and Klara (Kosan) into the third round and Zoe (Eberle) and Maya (Clay), and Danielle (Zamora) and Georgia (Townsend) into the second round of doubles. Our squad is doing the work and seeing the fruit of their labor. We're looking forward to a big day back on the courts tomorrow."

Lee added that day one at Stanford was "a big step in the right direction."

Doubles
  • Pacific started the day with back to back doubles wins in straight set fashion with Georgia Townsend and Danielle Zamora downing San Jose State's Laura Malsert and Klara Milojkovic 8-7(3), and Zoe Eberle/Maya Clay defeating Seattle's Michelle Bader and Kyra Jung 8-2.
  • The Tigers didn't have much luck on the back end of the team's four doubles matches, with Anna Ramos Vinolas and Karina Vyrnlan falling 6-8 to San Francisco's Arianna Capogrosso and Rita Colyer.
  • Klara Kosan and Dohee Lee also fell in their Round of 64 doubles contest, 4-8 to Oregon's Julia Eshet and Lillian Mould.

Singles
  • Nine seed Klara Kosan kickstarted her first ITA Regionals with a convincing 6-0, 6-2 win over Portland State's Estzer Zador.
  • The 2019 Battle in the Bay singles champion kept it rolling with an easy 6-4, 6-0 win over Washington's Zoey Weil to advance to Saturday morning's Round of 32.
  • Dohee Lee also skated her way out of the Round of 128 to the tune of a 6-0, 6-3 win over Santa Clara's Lindsey Pesqueira. Lee punched her ticket to Saturday with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 win over San Francisco's Mya Bui.
  • Maya Clay was the third Tiger to make the Round of 64 with an exciting 6-3, 7-6(2) over Tamara Anderson of Gonzaga.
  • Freshman Zoe Eberle put (2) Julia Rosenqvist of Cal on the ropes, but fell 6-4, 3-6, 6-7(5) in one of the last matches of the opening round.
