Tigers Fall in Season Opener

STOCKTON, Calif. – The University of the Pacific struggled in a tough match against #4 University of Maryland, dropping the season opener on Friday, August 24, 3-0.

In Case You Missed It:

  • Maryland scored two consecutive goals within three minutes of each other (16:16-18:51), both knocked in by Nike Lorenz. She went on to secure a hat trick with the game's only other goal at 25:53
  • In the second half, Pacific's defense picked it up, grabbing four defensive saves.
  • Marlise van Tonder stopped eight shots in the second half, combining for 10 total saves.

By the Numbers:

  • Maryland outshot the Tigers 25-2 with 18 shots landing on target.
  • Kriekie van Wyk tallied the only shot on goal for Pacific.
  • Hayley Kilfoil had a team high of three defensive saves.

Coach Andy Smith's comments:
"I thought we acquitted ourselves wonderfully and very well against a very good team.  They were fantastic but we were right there with them.  It was an education for us in terms of where we want to be as a program.  We aren't that far away and hopefully today will be a good building block for Sunday and thereafter."
