Scouting Vermont …
- Vermont enters the weekend with an 8-10 record, 4-4 in conference play.
- They average 9.9 shots and 1.5 goals per game, while allowing their opponents 2.06 goals per game
- Landon Warren leads the Catamounts' offense with eight goals, one assist, and 17 points. Rachel Phillips follows with 12 points (five goals, two assists).
- Defensively, Sierra Espeland owns every minute between the posts. She has allowed 37 goals and has registered 84 saves in 1244:29 total minutes.
What's Happened So Far …
- Tournament host Stanford advanced to America East Semifinals with a victory over New Hampshire Thursday afternoon.
- Due to an outbreak of flu-like symptoms on the University of Albany squad, its quarterfinal game was postponed and will be played prior to the other two, previously scheduled quarterfinal games on Friday.
- The Winner between Albany and UC Davis will face the winner of the Tigers match with Vermont. The winner between Maine and California will face the Cardinal in the semifinals.
Conference Play Wrap-up …
The Tigers finished 5-1 in the West Division of the America East Conference, suffering its only loss to Stanford.
Pacific swept in its final weekend of conference play, splitting its series with the Cardinal after a 2-1 victory in Palo Alto last Friday night. Then on Sunday, the Tigers downed California by an identical 2-1 score to secure another division title for the program.
Statistically speaking, Pacific finished regular-season play with 39 goals, 236 shots, 102 saves, and 104 penalty corners.
Defensive Player of the Week …
Marlise van Tonder was recognized at the both the conference and national levels following stellar performances in the Tigers final two regular-season matches at Stanford and California.
Van Tonder most recently was announced the program's first ever Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Defensive Player of the Week after securing her ninth and tenth victories on the season. In a total of 140:00 minutes, the redshirt sophomore allowed just two goals and recorded 13 saves, nine of which were against the nationally-ranked Cardinal.
Postseason Awards …
Senior forward Kriekie van Wyk and junior defender Nthabi Maine snagged America East West All-Conference honors Wednesday night at the Conference's pre-tournament banquet.
Van Wyk earned her third-career all-conference nod after helping the Tigers to to their fourth-consecutive America East West Division Title. The South Africa product totaled 17 goals and two assists for an average of 2.0 points per game. Maine spearheaded a defense that allowed just 30 goals on the season, which ranked fourth overall in the America East and second in the West.
In addition, the Conference office announced the All-Academic recipients and the Tigers making the list were junior Ash Rutherford and graduate senior Karlijn Roijakkers.
