Box Score DAVIS, Calif. – Kriekie van Wyk sealed the victory for the University of the Pacific field hockey team in a shootout over the University of California Davis Aggies on Friday afternoon, 2-1.
The Tigers improve to 8-5 on the season and 2-0 in conference action, while the Aggies fall to 6-8 overall and 0-2 in the America East.
In Case You Missed It:
- In the 11th minute of the contest, UC Davis took a quick 1-0 lead with Eline van den Bosch receiving a pass at the top of the circle to knock the ball into the cage past the keeper.
- In the 43rd minute, Gaby de Kock tied the game, 1-1, off a rebounded save to force an overtime period
- The Tigers and Aggies battled through two overtime periods but forced a shootout, as both teams could not find a way to grab a victory.
- In the shootout, UC Davis and Pacific tied, 2-2, but van Wyk started round two of the shootout and scored to seal the 2-1 victory for Pacific.
By the Numbers:
- Marlise van Tonder grabbed five saves against three saves by Chelsea Bigelow.
- Pacific had 14 penalty corners, with six alone in the first half.
- The Tigers outshot the Aggies, 26-11, with van Wyk tallying half of the shots (13) with two landing on target.
Coach Smith's Comments:
"We found a way to win. It wasn't pretty but we found a way to get it done. All credit to UC Davis who were brilliant today and made us work very hard for the win. Hopefully today is a bit of a wake up call for us, as we head into the business end of the season."
