Tigers Net 10 Goals In Win Over No. 10 Loyola Marymount University

Westwood, Calif. - Appearing in their first game of the SoCal Tournament, pacific men's water polo team defeated No. 10 Loyola Marymount University (LMU), 10-6. With the win the Tigers improved to 7-2 on the season.

In the opening quarter senior Joey Gullikson (Sonoma, Calif.) got Pacific's offense going when he tallied a goal at the 7:04 mark to give the Tigers the one point advantage. Freshman Balazs Erdelyi (Eger, Hungary) and junior Tom Koning (Poway, Calif.) then extended Pacific's lead to three on uninterrupted goals at the 4:59 and 2:11 marks respectively. Up until the :52 mark LMU was held scoreless by the Tiger defense, when the Lions found the back of the net to make it a 3-1 contest to end the quarter.

LMU kicked off the second quarter by reducing Pacific's lead to one with a goal at the 7:29 spot, however junior Tyler Reardon (Oak Park, Calif.) countered with a goal at the 6:21 point to give the Tigers a 4-2 lead. With 4:29 remaining in the half Erdelyi tallied his second goal of the contest, which was then followed by a goal from sophomore Balazs Szabo (Budapest, Hungary) with :52 remaining in regulation.

Trailing the Tigers 6-2 entering the third quarter, LMU found the back of the net at the 5:38 and 4:52 spots to reduce Pacific's lead to two. The Tigers closed out the quarter taking the 9-4 lead on goals from juniors Daniel Lungu (Netanya, Israel) and Lance Morrison (Fairfield, Calif.) and sophomore Goran Tomasevic (Split, Croatia).

In the final frame LMU scored its fifth goal of the contest at the 5:43 mark to come within four of the Tigers, but Pacific responded at the 4:34 mark on a goal from Koning to make it a 10-5 game. With 2:04 remaining on the clock LMU tallied its final goal of the contest for a 10-6 final score.

Offensively Pacific was led by freshman Balazs Erdelyi (Eger, Hungary) who tallied two goals while freshman Alex Malkis (Yoqneam, Israel) recorded eight saves in the cage.

The Tigers return to action at 3:10 p.m. against No. 2 UCLA.
