No. 11 Pacific Outdone by No. 14 Air Force, 9-8

Stanford, Calif. - In its second day of the Northern California Invitational, No. 11 Pacific lost to No. 14 Air Force, 9-8. The loss dropped the Tigers to 9-4 on the season and the Falcons improved to 5-6 on the year.

No. 10 Pacific took the pool early Sunday morning to face No. 14 Air Force. The Tigers took an early lead on a goal by junior Lorin Bartlett (Porterville, Calif.) at the 6:21 mark. Air Force quickly responded 21 seconds later to tie the game at 1-1. At the 5:51 mark junior Lance Morrison (Fairfield, Calif.) scored his first goal of the day to give Pacific the 2-1 lead. The Tiger defense held Air Force scoreless until the 3:36 and 0:41 marks, to close out the first quarter trailing 3-2.

In a defensive second quarter Pacific continued to battle Air Force for goals. Junior Hector Lam Jr. (San Diego, Calif.) quickly put Pacific on the board at 7:35 to tie the contest at 3-3. Air Force was held scoreless until the 1:56 spot, when the Falcons notched a goal to take the 4-3 lead. With 0:45 remaining in the half, sophomore Tom Koning (Poway, Calif.) score his first goal of the day to tie the contest at 4-4. Air Force took the 5-4 lead to end the first half.

Entering the third quarter junior Joey Gullikson (Sonoma, Calif.) tied the game at 5-5. Pacific and Air Force remained tied most of the quarter, but Air Force went on to close the quarter scoring two unanswered goals at the 2:24 and 2:13 marks.

Trailing 7-5 entering the fourth quarter, Morrison scored his second and third goals of the contest to tie the game at 7-7. Air Force regained the lead at 5:27, but the Tigers battled until the 2:49 spot when junior Austin Delong (Houston, Texas) notched a goal to tie the match at 8-8. Air Force responded 29 seconds later to regain the lead and the Tigers were unable to find the back of the net in the remaining two minutes of regulation.

Sophomore Lance Morrison led the Tigers, scoring three goals.

The Tigers continue action Sunday, Sept. 20, against Pomona-Pitzer at 1:20 p.m.
