No. 11 Pacific falls to No. 7 Pepperdine in Opening Round of NorCal Tournament

Stanford, Calif. - In its first game day of the NorCal Tournament, No. 11 Pacific lost to No. 7 Pepperdine, 10-4. The loss dropped the Tigers to 9-2 on the season and the Waves improved to 3-2 on the year.

Pacific took to the pool early Sept. 19, at the Avery Aquatics Center to face No. 7 Pepperdine. In the first quarter the Waves shutout the Tigers scoring five unanswered goals. Pepperdine scored the first goal of the contest at the 7:21 mark.

Senior Grant Hollis (Redlands, Calif.) put the Tigers on the board with 4:56 remaining in the second quarter, to cut Pepperdine's lead to four. Pacific held Pepperdine scoreless until the 2:34 point when Pepperdine scored its sixth goal of the game. At the end of the first half, Pacific trailed Pepperdine 7-1.

In the third quarter, the Tiger defense limited Pepperdine to one goal at the 6:10 mark. Senior Joey Rossi (Ceres, Calif.) notched a goal with 2:11 remaining to make the score 8-2.

The Tigers scored the first goal of the fourth quarter when junior Joey Gullikson (Sonoma, Calif.) scored on a penalty shot with 7:41 left in regulation. Gullikson tallied his second goal of the game at 4:40, scoring Pacific's fourth goal of the contest. Pepperdine scored its final goals at 3:20 and 2:20 to put the Waves up 10-4.

Gullikson led the Tigers with two goals, while freshman Tomislav Bujas (Spilt, Croatia) had nine saves in the cage for Pacific. Pacific continues action Sept. 19, against No. 18 UC Davis at 1:20 p.m.
