No. 15 Pacific Comes Within Two Goals of No. 2 California, defeated 12-5.

Berkeley, Calif. – No. 15 Pacific was defeated by No. 2 California, 12-5. With the loss Pacific falls to 13-14 (0-7 MPSF) on the year, while California improves to 19-4 (6-1 MPSF) on the season.

California opened the first quarter notching its goal at the 5:29 spot to take the 1-0 lead, but junior Austin Delong (Houston, Texas) responded 29 seconds later to tie the game at one goal apiece. The Golden Bears scored back-to-back goals at the 4:25 and 3:13 spots to take the 3-1 lead to end the quarter.

In the second quarter, California gained the three point advantage with 6:09 remaining in the half. Senior Joey Rossi (Ceres, Calif.) tallied Pacific's first goal of the quarter at the 4:11 mark to make it a 4-2 contest. The Tigers trailed by two after back-to-back goals by Charlie Steffens and Luke Saponjic of California when Goran Tomasevic (Split, Croatia) and Lance Morrison (Fairfield, Calif.) notched back-to-back goals for Pacific to cut California's lead to two. Freshman Tomislav Bujas (Split, Croatia) recorded three saves in the cage for Pacific as the Tiger defense played a strong first half.

Down 6-4 entering the third quarter, the Tiger offense was held scoreless as California scored two additional goals to take make it an 8-4 contest.

In the final frame, California notched four goals for the eight point advantage. Freshman Jason Wensley (Concord, Calif.) scored Pacific's final goal with 1:01 remaining in regulation to close the game at 12-5.

Austin Delong (Houston, Texas), Joey Rossi (Ceres, Calif.), Goran Tomasevic (Split, Croatia), Jason Wensley (Concord, Calif.) and Lance Morrison (Fairfield, Calif.) scored one goal apiece against California. Freshman Tomislav Bujas (Split, Croatia) finished the day with seven saves for the Tigers.

The Tigers close out the regular season Saturday, Nov. 21, at home against Long Beach State at 12 p.m. Pacific will honor seniors Joey Rossi (Ceres, Calif.), Grant Hollis (Redlands, Calif.), Lorin Bartlett (Porterville, Calif.) and David Andrus (Houston, Texas). Following the Long Beach State game, the Tigers will face the alumni at 4 p.m.
