Stockton, Calif. - The Tigers took to the pool for a late afternoon contest against the No. 16 Aggies of UC Davis. UC Davis defeated Pacific, 7-6.
In the first frame, senior Grant Hollis (Redlands, Calif.) notched the Tigers lone goal of the quarter with 3:53 remaining in the quarter to take the 1-0 lead. The Tiger defense held the Aggies scoreless while senior David Andrus (Houston, Texas) recorded three saves. Andrus prevented the Aggies from tying up the game with 0:23 left on the clock as he blocked a penalty shot from Cory Lyle of UC Davis.
Pacific led 1-0 entering the second quarter when Jim Breen notched his first of three goals for the Aggies at the 4:45 mark to tie the game at one goal a piece. The Aggies went on to take the 3-1 lead when freshman Goran Tomasevic (Split, Croatia) notched Pacific's second goal on a penalty shot with 1:52 left to play in the half.
Down by one entering the third quarter, sophomore Tom Koning (Poway, Calif.) tied the game at 3-3 at the 5:59 mark. Freshman Balazs Szabo (Budapest, Hungary) followed up 56 seconds later to put Pacific up 4-3. Matt Richardson of UC Davis tied the game with 4:36 on the clock at four goals apiece. Koning struck again at the 3:16 point to give the Tigers the one point advantage, but Brendan Sigourney of UC Davis tied the game in the quarter with 1:55 remaining to make it a 5-5 contest.
Senior Joey Rossi (Ceres, Calif.) won the sprint for Pacific to open the fourth quarter. UC Davis notched back-to-back goals at the 7:03 and 5:17 marks to take a 7-5 lead. Tomasevic notched his second goal of the game with 0:40 left in regulation to cut the lead to one, but the Tigers were unable to get off another shot and find the back of the cage before the end of regulation.
Sophomore Tom Koning (Poway, Calif.) and freshman Goran Tomasevic (Split, Croatia) led the Tigers with two goals a piece. Senior David Andrus (Houston, Texas) finished the day recording 10 saves in the cage for the Tigers.
With the loss Pacific falls to 13-13 (0-6 MPSF) on the year, while UC Davis improves to 13-14 (9-4 WWPA) on the season. Pacific continues action Saturday, Nov. 14, in Berkeley, Calif., against the No. 2 Golden Bears at 10:30 a.m.
