Irvine, Calif. - In its third game of the Southern California Invitational No. 13 Pacific defeated No. 14 Princeton, 7-5. With the win the Pacific improves to 11-8 on the season and Princeton falls to 7-8 on the year.
To start the game junior Joey Gullikson (Sonoma, Calif.) put Pacific on the board at 5:56, notching his first goal of the contest on a penalty shot. Princeton responded 16 seconds later with a goal to tie the game at one goal apiece. Freshman Balazs Szabo (Budapest, Hungary) and senior Lorin Bartlett (Porterville, Calif.) tallied goals 35 seconds apart to give Pacific the 3-1 lead. Freshman Goran Tomasevic (Split, Croatia) closed out the quarter notching a goal with 0:03 remaining on the clock to make it a 4-1 game.
In the second frame, Gullikson scored his second goal of the day on a penalty shot at the 7:00 mark. Pacific's defense had limited Princeton to one goal until the 4:55 mark when Princeton made it a 5-2 game. Tomasevic scored his second goal of the day with 2:56 remaining the half.
Princeton shut out the Tiger offense in the third quarter and scored two unanswered goals at the 7:00 and 0:17 spots to make it a 6-4 game.
Entering the fourth quarter Gullikson tallied his third goal of the contest at the 7:00 mark to give Pacific the 7-4 lead. Princeton closed out the game notching its fifth goal with 1:12 remaining in regulation.
Junior Joey Gullikson (Sonoma, Calif.) led the Tigers with three goals. Senior David Andrus (Houston, Texas) had nine saves in the cage for Pacific.
Pacific concludes action at 3:10 p.m. against the winner of Redlands and No. 17 Bucknell.
