The Pacific men's water polo team dropped an 11-6 decision to No. 4 UCLA on Saturday, September 20, at Chris Kjeldsen Pool. The loss moved the Tigers to 6-5 on the year, while UCLA improved to 2-0 on the season.
The Bruins jumped out to an early lead, outscoring the Tigers 3-0 in the first quarter. The Tigers responded with two goals in the second period from sophomore Austin Delong (Houston, Texas), but the Bruins scored three more times to lead 6-2 at halftime.
The Tigers got a goal from senior William Milcovich (Walnut Creek, Calif.) at the beginning of the third period to cut the UCLA lead to 6-3. The Bruins scored two more goals to make the score 8-3 with 2:19 left in the third quarter before Delong scored his team-best third goal of the game to make it 8-4. The Bruins scored again to make it 9-4 at the end of the third period. In the fourth quarter the Tigers and Bruins played even, each scoring two goals. Pacific goal scorers in the fourth period were seniors Evan Garcia (Seabrook, Texas) and Shane Mahoney (Lodi, Calif.).
The Tigers return to the pool Saturday, September 20 as they face UC Davis at 4:00 p.m. in the second round of the 2008 NorCal Tournament.
